One Piece: 3 stories that need a smidge of adjestment to make them more believable

Let’s be real, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows in the Grand Line. There are moments that, while entertaining, make us raise an eyebrow and go, “Wait, what?”

In this whimsical exploration of One Piece, we’ll dive into some narratives that could use a smidge of believable tweaking, all while preserving the essence of the story.

1. The Eternal Duel: Aokiji vs. Akainu

Remember that legendary showdown between Aokiji and Akainu, where they battled for a mind-boggling 10 days straight? Well, if we’re being honest, ten days of non-stop action sounds pretty intense, even for two of the most powerful Devil Fruit users. I mean, who doesn’t need a bathroom break or a sandwich after a few hours?

So, let’s dial it down a bit. How about we make it a still incredibly impressive 10 hours? It’s long enough to showcase their tremendous power and commitment without pushing the boundaries of human… or rather, Devil Fruit user endurance.

2. Ace’s Mystery Mom and the 20-Month Pregnancy

Ah, Ace, the loveable flame-fist wielder, and the mysterious case of his mom’s 20-month pregnancy. Now, I’m no medical expert, but 20 months of pregnancy seems a tad unlikely. Sure, we’re in a world where people can stretch their bodies like rubber and control fire, but even in the One Piece universe, that’s quite the stretch (pun intended).

Because Ace was born only 1 year and 3 months after Roger died. That timeline doesn’t add up, since it would mean Rouge was only 5 months pregnant when Roger died. The theory is that Ace wasn’t originally planned to be Roger’s son. So the timeline didn’t work. Then later Oda decided to make Rouge a super mom who could somehow hold the pregnancy for long enough to make the dates match up.

Giving Ace’s exact age made the timeline not work with Rouge’s 20 month pregnancy. Oda wrote himself into a corner there. He should have just left Ace’s age vague. Or given an age that lined up better with when Roger died and how long Rouge was supposedly pregnant.
Basically Oda should not have told us Ace’s age. Or he should have fudged the numbers.

To make this narrative a tad more believable, maybe Rouge, Ace’s mom, could possess a unique Devil Fruit power similar to Capone Bege, who can house people within his body. If Rouge had a similar power, it would allow Ace to be born under more conventional circumstances. Still, it wouldn’t diminish the awe we have for her sacrifice.

3. The Starving Survivalists: Sanji and Zeff

Sanji and Zeff’s incredible month-long struggle on the rock in the middle of nowhere made for a thrilling and emotional chapter in One Piece. However, even in this fantastical world, surviving a month with no food or drinkable water is pushing the limits of human endurance. (I’m glad that at least on the Live Action they didn’t imply it was that long)

To make this ordeal a tad more realistic, the story could imply that a supply of limited rations or resources was available to them. This adjustment wouldn’t affect the essence of their experience and would make the story more relatable for us mere mortals who need sustenance to survive.

While these narratives may raise questions, they don’t take away from the overall enjoyment of the series.

After all, it’s a story of adventure, friendship, and the pursuit of the ultimate treasure, and sometimes, a touch of the unbelievable just adds to the charm.

And as for Ace’s mysterious timeline, well, maybe Eiichiro Oda should have fudged the numbers a bit, but hey, the One Piece universe thrives on its quirks and mysteries. It’s all part of the grand adventure we’ve all come to love. So, let’s keep the questions coming, and let’s keep enjoying this epic tale of the high seas!
