Attack On titan: The extended Eren/Armin scene really tidied things up significantly

Oh, the extended Eren/Armin scene in the anime? That was a game-changer! In my humble opinion, one of the manga’s major flaws was their interaction – Eren’s motives were like trying to find a needle in a haystack, and Armin’s line about Eren becoming a “mass murderer for our sake” was cringe-worthy at best. And don’t get me started on their bickering about the rumbling!

But in the anime, they spiced things up. Eren’s confession was golden: “I’m just your average idiot who stumbled upon some insane power.” Twitter is buzzing with positivity, especially on Japanese Twitter, and I have to say, the praise is well-deserved.

The scene went from being the low point of Episode 139 in the manga to an absolute highlight in the anime.

It was less subtle, and that’s just fine by me. They axed that terrible line and gave Armin more backbone. The “We’ll go to hell together” and “I’ll be waiting for you in hell” scenes? Way better! Eren’s whining was handled more gracefully with a child-like cry, and Eren admitting he’d killed Hange and Sasha added depth. The blood ocean scene? Mind-blowing! Plus, the End of Eva reference was a cherry on top. Eren clutching teeth and hair while Armin held the seashell, and Eren finally realizing it, ending in that heartbreaking hug – wow, just wow. The final episode beats the final volume by a mile, although it’s not perfect due to the rushed feeling and some loose ends. Still, it’s a controversial but workable ending.

And here’s a fun twist: in the manga, the conversation mostly revolved around Mikasa, while the anime flipped the script.

Don’t get me wrong; chatting about Mikasa in that moment is cool, but wiping out 80% of civilization might be slightly more pressing, don’t you think? The anime nailed it!
